Happy Birthday with a Give-away Blessing

Happy Birthday to ME!!
I'm loving it!
This year, today, I am celebrating my 60th birthday
and I have to say that I have enjoyed reaching those mile stones over the years
and this one is no different.
I truly believe we can choose to grow old gracefully.
We can look forward to our Birthday's and not dread them,
knowing and trusting God as He guides us through each day of our lives.
For me...I looked forward to all those BIG birthdays over these past 60 years,
except for my 13th birthday, I wasn't looking forward to those teen years.
~ I was 16 in this photo ~

But...
there was no stopping it and onward life went.
Time doesn't wait for anyone.

My 20th was exciting because I was just beginning my life with my dear husband,
and it was in my twenties when I gave my life to Christ.
Life was fresh and new as I began my journey as a Christian woman.
Soon after my salvation, God placed a dear woman
who was totally bedridden with MS ~ Muscular Dystrophy in my life.
This dear woman would become my first spiritual mentor
and as I reflect back I can see clearly that God knew I needed her
in those beginning years of my walk with the Lord.
I may one day share that amazing story of how God perfectly brought us together.

My 30th was my favorite birthday, not sure why, but I couldn't wait to turn 30!
Maybe it was because in my head I thought being thirty you were all grown up. Ha!
My thirties were lived mostly in Canada were I began
working with Home Health Care.
My heart was drawn to the palliative care and would soon lead me to
working mostly with Hospice patients.
Most certainly, my passion.

My 40th was exiting!
My mother out did herself with her decorations for my birthday party
of purple balloons, tons of balloons by the way in different shades of purple.
The dinning room was filled with flowers balloons and confetti ~ OH it was gorgeous!
It was a perfect beginning to start off my forties.
Both of our daughters were married during my forties
and before reaching the age of 50 I was blessed with two precious grandsons.
I now have four awesome grandsons to love on.
I had always wanted a baby at the age of 40 ~ I came close, but God had other plans.

My 50th...
I enjoyed turning the "Big 50" but it arrived with some heartache,
though I must say the years during my fifties were glorious
with much spiritual growth, for which I am very thankful.
Heartache covered by God's love and grace makes all things beautiful.
In my late fifties God gave me my precious Donatella,
and she has warmed her way right into my heart.
This dear girl has the happiest tail, and that, makes me happy!
I wasn't looking for a dog ~ but God certainly knows what is best for us.

And now I've reached 60!
Seems hard to believe actually ~ when I was a young child,
I always thought 60 was soooooo OLD,
but I don't feel old at all, I may look old, but I feel great!
I did notice a new little wrinkle near my lip just the other day!
I'm calling it my birthday wrinkle. 🎁
Oh I just have to tell something crazy about getting older!
So my dear daughter Stephanie had a Valentine Tea for me.
We had talked and set the time and date over the phone,
which by the way, we chose the date specifically because it was free for the both of us.
Well...on the day of the Tea I was busy (in my cleaning clothes no less)
when I received a phone call from Stephanie a half an hour after I was to be
at her home, she was wondering if I was coming.
"Coming I said"???
Oh dear friends, I gasped!!
How in the world did I let that happen?!
It was highlighted in my calendar ~ I had in my head what I was going to wear ~
I planned for a friend to watch Donatella ~ I made appointments around the date ~
but I had one thing wrong, in my head I planned everything for the wrong date.
I clean up well, and I did it in one BIG RUSH!!
I was thanking the Lord on my drive to Stephanie's
because I could have easily missed her absolutely gorgeous,
not to mention hard work, Valentine Tea
and I would have never forgiven myself.
So...I do not feel like I'm getting older,
but here's proof that I just may be getting older after all.

☆ ♡ ☆ ♡ ☆ ♡ ☆

What does the Lord have for me this year and in the years to follow
as I live out my 60's should that be God's will?
I enjoy looking with anticipation as to what God is going to do in and through my life
with each and every year that He grants me precious life.
I belong to Him, and as a child of the King my desire is to be used of Him,
and to bring glory and honor to his Holy and Righteous Name.
My ultimate goal in this life is to one day see Christ face to face,
but here on this earth I'm on a journey, a race in which I must strive for the finish line.
I know that if I run in my own strength I will fail miserably, however,
there is strength in Jesus Christ that will make my journey successful,
and for that, I will praise the Lord all the days of my life!

☆ ♡ ☆ ♡ ☆ ♡ ☆

For Christmas this year I received a beautiful devotional book and journal
from my dear Stephanie.
I have never heard of this author before, she even lives in Colorado,
but I have so enjoyed her beautiful writings and her
simple approach to the seasons of our lives with Scripture.
The author ~ Ruth Chou Simons is also an artist
and both art and text in the book are from her, its gorgeous!

 Gracelaced ~
Discovering Timeless Truths
Through Seasons Of The Heart
is a beautiful book and journal set that I would love to gift someone
with my Birthday Give-Away Blessing.
I do not usually have give-aways, in fact I've only had 2 since I've been blogging,
but this is a special occasion for me
and what a good time to share JOY with someone else.
Not much is required of you to enter ~
I would love for you to share in a comment one of your special birthdays
then, if you wish to enter I will place your name in a crystal dish
(of course it has to be a pretty crystal dish for us ladies)
and my dear husband will draw the name from the dish on the night of the 12th.
I will announce the winner on Wednesday the 13th of March.
I shall be singing with JOY in my heart throughout this day
as I praise God's Name for His abundant mercies
He has bestowed upon me over the years.
It's a glorious day!

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts,
to the which also ye are called in one body;
and be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him. "
~ Colossians 3:15-17 ~

Take Joy!

Oh Debbie!!!! What a wonderful recap of your life in pictures and memories. I have never minded aging either---not so bad when you think of the alternative!

My favorite birthday was when I turned 50. My kids planned a huge bash and had rented a hall. They did a "roast" and my brother flew in from PA and two families flew in from FL (I had no idea). I thought I was going to a celebration of my daughter/husband's new business. lol I was shocked and surprised. My youngest son acted as an emcee and had everyone rolling with laughter. What a fun/blessed time and one that will live in my memory forever.

Happy Birthday to you, dear Debbie. You are lucky to have a Stephanie in your life--I know how you feel....xo Diana

Dear Debbie, the happiest of birthdays to you. I love how you enjoy each decade of your life and manage to do it so gracefully. I also enjoyed all your photos and hearing the highlights of each decade of your life. I don't celebrate birthdays that much as when we were children growing up birthdays were never really a big thing. My mom seemed to select certain birthdays to celebrate. I can remember one that stayed with me just because I turned 16 and she had purchased for me a beautiful card and a beautiful nightgown which I can still see in my mind to this day. I don't think we had a birthday party as such but it was a special day between mom and I where she was ushering me into young adulthood.

Happy Birthday Beautiful Debbie! : D

I enjoyed taking a trip down memory lane with you, loved all the photos. What a nice looking couple you and your hubby are! I think you are your loveliest now! : ) I think with the Lord, He does that.

I *love* the shot with you and Donatella! Oh my gosh, that is so cute...

You have a lovely week as you ponder on God's goodness! We just had our first grandbaby born last week!

I'm just a couple of years behind you by the way! My hubby is five years ahead of you. Life goes on and it's like a roller coaster right?

a BIG Birthday (((HUG))) Love, Amelia

What a beautiful post! You are one lovely lady, inside and out. I was blessed reading this and thank you for sharing your milestone birthdays. You are an inspiration to me to 'age gracefully'. I will be 70 on the first day of spring. ;-) That doesn't seem possible.

I am sitting here trying to remember a best birthday, and what I can come up with has to be my 17th. Not because of a special celebration or anything like that, but it was when I first met my husband-to-be. That was a gift from Jesus and I am forever thankful.

Continued birthday blessings on you dear friend ~ FlowerLady

Happy Birthday dear Debbie! You are beautiful...all through the years! And I think the 60s are wonderful and a time to really do all the things you love to do. I volunteer for Hospice here in our town. I am a patient visitor and spend my Mondays visiting at a Hospice House. It is very rewarding and so appreciated by the patients and the families and friends. I am blessed through this work. Enjoy your special day! You know Stephanie is so special to all of us that we've all adopted her!!! Just so you know! heehee! Birthday hugs coming your way, Diane

How fun! What a way to find blessing in the years. My birthdays haven't had much significance (granted I haven't had many), probably my fondest memory is of my 17th birthday. We had a shared party with a friend of mine whose birthday was two days later. I invited all of our mutual friends and my parents and another couple served a mystery dinner (can't remember what it's called right now) where we each received a menu with the list of items in another language and we had to choose which 3 we wanted for each of 3 courses. The silverware were included in that list so you may get all food one course and all silverware the next. It was a lot of fun. Dinner was followed by cake and games. Neither of us remembered it but my husband was there, 7 years before we started dating. My dad gave me a purity ring after we got home.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! So thankful to visit with you today and see how God has blessed you through the years. It would be hard for me to pick one special birthday and talk about it because all of my birthdays have been so very, very dear to my heart! I will pick 21 because I had just met my dear lifetime sweetheart a few months prior, and we were falling deeply and madly in love! I still have the precious gifts he got me for that birthday, and it was during my 21st year that we got engaged and a few months later, we got married. That was almost 31 years ago, and oh, how sweet the journey has been and still is every, single day! God has been SO good to my little family and me and to you, too, dear friend! I hope this is your happiest birthday ever, and I would love to be entered in your giveaway!

I hope this year is filled with so much love, laughter, joy, and sweet blessings that you can't even stand it {{smiles}}

Enjoy your birthday and enjoy this year. We are looking forward to tonight and we will see you soon. I love you!

I found your blog from Stephanie's, because once she said it was your birthday, I just HAD to come along and bring some best wishes...and maybe a little virtual tea.

So many birthdays for me to choose from....hmmm ... I guess I will pick my 48th birthday. Why such an odd number? Well, my own father passed away at the age of 47, nearly 30 years previously. So reaching 48 felt incredibly significant.

And I guess 57 was fairly important as well. I've always considered myself to be a Christian (I was in a church nursery when I was 3 days old!), but at 57 I started a Bible study with some area friends, from which has started a daily study habit with me and changed my life for the better!

Happy Birthday!

On my 60th birthday I was living in County Kerry, Ireland, & we were moving that day from a rental house to the 150-yr-old cottage we bought. It was hard work, on my cold, rainy December birthday.

But, when we arrived at the cottage at 9 a.m. with the first load of furniture, something caught my eye right away. My friend Sheila had come over very early that day & hung a GIANT pair of women's underwear, with "Happy Birthday, Charlie!" stamped on it in red, from a gutter over the front door.

It was so fun, I still have that pair of novelty underwear in a box of mementos 12 years later.

I enjoyed this post so much Debbie! Happy Birthday!! Thank you for sharing the photos and stories. I am like you, I have not been upset or sad when I have another birthday, even if it means I am growing older.
This year I decided to no longer color my hair. I am 44 going on 45. I actually had a lady come up to me and ask "What are you doing, your are too young to go grey!" LOL Well I feel good about my decision, my color is all grown out now and I feel my hair is very healthy.
Anyway .. I am rambling.. I just enjoy your heart and honesty. Thank You!

My favorite birthday .. my birthday is 12/12 and I had a very memorable 12/12/2012 birthday.
Love, Carla

Sweet blessings to you on this very special day that the Lord made YOU! I loved reading about each of your birthdays and they all seem special. My most special birthday was my 50th. I gave myself a winter wonderland party at a cabin on the lake, and the weather cooperated! I had everyone closest to me there with good food that my daughters made. The devotional book sounds lovely and I would love a chance to receive it. Thank you!

Birthdays are a blessing. You ceryhave the right approach. As long as God gives me breath, I plan on fully living each day. I am 10 years ahead of you,but it’s only a number. My 65th was special, since my son and my sister worked together to give me a special surprise supper. I was totally oblivious to all that had gone on behind my back,so was duly surprised. Yes, I would love to be in on your giveaway,if being in Canada isn’t a problem for shipping. Happy Birthday dear friend.

Birthday Blessings to you dear Debbie! I loved reading your post-what a joy filled attitude you have. There were several birthdays I enjoyed, but it seemed when I hit 40, my dental issues started-ugh. I don't think you look 60, but I love your heart. My two daughters and sil's planned a surprise 60th party for hubby and myself-they invited probably 40 people and some flew in from Ca. It was a sit down dinner no less. They did all the work and one sil even made the birthday cake.
I love the book you have and already have one-I got three several years ago for my daughters and I. I also gave some away, so please don't put me in the drawing. Love the watercolors.
Sending you hugs, love and prayers for a glorious birthday and year.

I guess my most memorable birthday was when I turned 50 and some ladies from my church set up a surprise "black birthday party" for me...greeted at the door by a wheelchair no less and given black roses! Now what kind of friends are they?? LOL. I wish you the happiest of days yet, my precious friend! BIG BIRTHDAY HUGS!!♥♥♥

A very Happy Birthday to you Debbie. You are a very sweet person. I love the way you share Christ in some way each post. Our lives are the only bible some people read. I hope this day is just as and more special than any of your previous birthdays.
The most special birthday of mine that comes to mind is my 17th. I had just become engaged and my David had a Princess Doll cake made for me. We had my party in a park. It was one of the loveliest birthdays I remember.
I will be 62 this year. I told my pastors wife that it's not the years, it's the blessing of life in Christ, day by day.
I hope your day is very blessed Debbie.

I so enjoyed this post and walking with you through the decades of your life. You've been blessed, and I pray that God will indeed continue to bless your life with His peace and good health and many blessings. 60 is the new 40 I think! I turned 68 last September! I can't believe that! My most recent happiest birthday was my 65th, and my dear friend Sharon, who is now battling for her life as she deals with a rare lung cancer, but at that time she was healthy and strong, and she wanted to give me a big party at her house. It was wonderful. All my family that lives close enough were there, along with dear friends. It was very touching and sweet, as it hadn't been that long since our son Matthew had passed away from cancer, and so it was a very sweet time to have this party to celebrate life. Thankfully, I retired about two months later. Now I pray for my friend Sharon every day. I fear we will be having a celebration of life for her before her next birthday in November...unless God sees fit to heal her. Praying!! Happy Birthday, Debbie. The best is yet to come!!

I'm so glad you didn't miss that beautiful Valentine's party that Stephanie and your grandson put on for you. Hey, I get it... I'm almost 13 years older than you :-)

I loved how you wrote about each decade. Loved the video of your husband skiing... I'm in HOT Florida. Yes, we are sick and tired of the 80+ weather most of the time and wish I could send you some.

So... I'm sending WARM and BLESSED wishes that your birthday will continue to be memorable. (((hugs)))

Happy Happy Happy Birthday a bit late. You look so beautiful in all your photos. My favorite birthday was 60 because our middle Rebekah had a tea cup cake made for me at a local bakery. Now I have joined the Medicare crowd. Oh well...I am very much like my late dad. You know the saying "Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter!"
We had had some cold weather and you have been graced with an abundance of snow. We have snow coming this weekend and last weekend we did too. But the weather was perfect early in the day today. Than the cold set in. But grateful for all the moisture God sends to us. We can certainly use it.
ALways wonderful to stop by and say hello. Enjoy your weekend. HUGS and LOVE xo

Congratulations! May God bless you richly in your sixties. They are such blessed years.
The first birthday I thought of was my eighteenth.

My momma had a special cake made that looked like a hot air balloon. She invited my best friends and my now husband. Yes, we were high school sweethearts. The day of my birthday, I woke up with a terrible cold. My friends still came, but I was so sick. I remember that cake, which she had paid so much for, was supposed to be chocolate mint. I think the lady spilled the extract bottle. The mint was so strong, we could barely eat it! But it was good to have friends and family near, and it all made for a memorable 18th birthday!

Be blessed dear friend,
Laura

P.S. My Lowell scheduled his knee replacement surgery for April 15th. No chance of missing that date!

Such a testimony to your Love of the LORD as your joy just continues to increase!!! Blessings and much joy to you!! When I think of a memory from my birthday, I think now of my "born again" birthday, when I was just born a-new, going into a warm hot springs, coming up soon almost 5 years ago (I was baptized in my early 50's)!!!♡

Wise Hearted said...

It's easy to tell from your picture you did not lose that 20 year old beauty as you aged, in fact aging drew out more inner beauty which is how it should be. I am 72 and am writing a book about a full life. For over 10 years
God has been trying to get me to do this but it seemed so overwhelming I would start then quit. So, because of that I have lots of notes to draw from. I leaned to play piano at 50, went to the mission field in my late 40's. My 20 and 30 were not so god until I got saved at 35. Having a Savior who delighted in using all of my life, the good and the bad was exactly what I needed. His love has kept me going through some very hard times, learning more about Him and His grace with every trial, making me thankful for His grace in my life. Lovely post.

Happy birthday! I think it is wonderful to celebrate instead of hiding from getting older, as we often do.
I do not really have many special birthday memories - except for one ... when I turned eight, my mother threw me a sweet little party for me and my friends. I dressed in a pretty lacy pink dress and the best part ... was that my mom bought pink toilet paper to use for the party! I'll never forget that! I loved it! What a funny but girlie touch!

One of my most memorable birthdays was the year I turned ten. It was kind of a big deal in the life of a little Amish girl :)

In the past few years I love how my children always make it special by picking a daffodil bouquet and making breakfast for me. Memories I'll treasure for always!

Blessings~

Oh, sweet and precious Debbie! I am so belated in wishing you birthday hugs and love, but I loved reading about the decades of your life and seeing the beautiful photos of you. God is so gracious, and I continue to be blessed by your friendship. I have the beautiful books by Ruth Chou Simons. What a blessing to see her artistic beauty along with God's Word. Hugs and love, sweet friend! xoxo
