My Word ~

Hello to you my dear and faithful friends ~
I trust that you had a most beautiful Christmas and New Year's Eve
filled with all the joy that the Lord so graciously and abundantly showered you with.
I know that as we sat around our Christmas tree
there was joy and laughter through out our home
with the sweet fellowship of our precious family.
Grandchildren certainly have a way of putting a smile in your heart.

For many of us the New Year brings with it change;
changes that we desire to make in our own lives
after all, it's a New Year and new beginnings
seem to touch us all in different ways.
When I became a Blogger in this wonderful blogging community
I would visit many of you and see that you had a "word" for the year.
I had never heard of such a thing, but found it to be quite intriguing;
before I knew it, I was hearing about these "words" people had for the year
as I would daily go about my life.
This year I am going to come aboard with some of you
and claim my word for the New Year.
Actually, the Lord has placed a word upon my heart
and it keeps coming into my mind and tugging at my heart strings.
In fact,  I have been putting my word into practice long before the New Year arrived.
My "word" for this year is Uplifting.
Two of the definitions in the dictionary are:
"influences intended to uplift and inspire"

I find myself talking with others that tend to be "Negative Nellie's"
and at times it can be easy to go along with them
or just agree when that's not at all how I feel.
I have found that by speaking in an uplifting manner
it causes the other person to do the same
and actually makes the conversation sweeter and more pleasant.
I desperately want them to see the brighter side and find the joy of the Lord.
I want to encourage them along the way, and isn't that what God would have us to do?
And then there are those who may be discouraged
and need more of a positive uplifting word of encouragement.
I want to be sensitive to the needs of others when I have a conversation with them
and speak in an uplifting, God honoring manner.
I think you get the idea of where I'm going with this.
God's Word tells us in Colossians chapter 4 verse 6 to ~
"Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt,
that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man."
I desire to speak what is spiritual, wholesome, fitting, kind, sensitive,
purposeful, complimentary, gentle, truthful, loving and thoughtful.
Seasoned with salt  ~ just as salt not only flavors, it also prevents corruption.
I want my speech to be a blessing to others no matter what type
of conversation I may come into contact with.

"Hear: for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening
of my lips shall be right things.
For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness
is an abomination to my lips.
All the words of my mouth are in righteousness,
there is nothing froward or perverse in them."
(Proverbs 8:6-8)
I want  my speech be all that God wants it to be.
I desire to be encouraging, inspiring and uplifting
to all who may cross my path.
Will you be having a word for the year that will draw you closer to the Lord?

Heavenly Father ~
Draw us ever so close to Your side
and help us to be the people You desire for us to be
as we walk, talk and live for Your glory.
Amen.

Be Glorious!
~ Debbie ~

That is an unusual but wonderful word for the year! I know by your posts that you have been doing it long before the new year and it suits you perfectly. I recently got a sense for a word for the new year, something I have not done in awhile and was not looking for. It is Kindness. For me to be kinder to those that oppose me or who are lost. Wow, I need prayer!

Dear Debbie this word fits you and your blog perfectly. Uplifting is something that describes both. If I were going to choose words for this year, there are a few, patience, trust, fear not, be thankful.

May you and yours have a wonderful 2017 ~ FlowerLady

Absolutely gorgeous photos and awesome words in this post. Words that come from the Lord. The post was "UPLIFTING" as all your posts are. I have never selected a word for the year, but last year "trust" seemed to become my word. This year the Lord gave me the verse in Matthew 17:20, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.". So I feel like "faith" should be my word for this year. Bless you, you are an uplifting person with every blog. Hugs

Dear Debbie, Like all those commenting, I always find you so uplifting and your blog daily blesses us with grace. I have always had a word for the New Year and yesterday read the definition of Thrive and loved it-but then last night I kept having a worship song float through my mind -He makes all things New, and I felt impressed with the word New. Looking forward to seeing what the Lord does in all of our lives.
Hugs,
Noreen

Your "word" is simply perfect for YOU :) I agree with AnnMarie and that you are already uplifing is so many way. I can't think of another person more uplifting than you. You have always been so uplifting in my life...just today I was thinking I couldn't imagine life without you. You have the gift of lifting others up even when you yourself are struggling with something. That is the love of God shining through your heart and life.

Like I said, a perfect word and one I know you will put to use all through the year :) Thanks for sharing your wonderful post with us and your pictures are absolutely beautiful!

Much love to you!

Hi Debbie,
Happy New Year! Yes, I have to agree with everyone else who thinks your word "UPLIFTING" suits you to a T! I know you have certainly lifted me up since the moment we "met" and I am very grateful!

So sorry you have not been feeling well, I know there is a lot going around. Two of my daughters were also ill over the holidays. Hope you have recovered!

Thinking of you and wishing you a wonderful year ahead. Blessings to you my friend!

Sweet Debbie, Your 'word' for 2017 fits you perfectly, as you are always uplifting in your words! I haven't chosen one for this year, yet. Hope you're having a great start to the new year! Love you much!!!

Debby Ray said...

Debbie, you couldn't have picked a more perfect word because every sentence that I have ever "heard" come out of your "mouth" has been nothing less than uplifting. Sometimes when I read comments, I try to imagine what people's voices sound like and read the comment in the voice that I am "hearing". Do you ever do that?? I have not picked a word for the year but just the other day a word kept running through my mind and thought if I was going to have one, that would be the one...it was peace. I think we can handle anything that comes our way if we can find the peace that passes all understanding :) Happy New Year, my uplifting (because you always are) friend! ♥

A lovely inspiring post... it is what I have been thinking of.. that to whom ever I speak with that I may speak in the manner of the Lord.. i have noticed that in conversations with some folk I tend to adapt their way of speaking at time. But I don't want this to happen, I want to stay within proper words at all times in all who I'm in presence with.. thank you for sharing this. Going to write the scriptures in my book.. have a lovely day with love Janice

JUST A SIMPLE WORD CAN BE SO INSPIRING. THANK YOU FOR REMINDING US TO SHARE IN YOUR WORD.

Oh, I love your word, "Uplifting"...and what a powerful message to us to always season our words with uplifting and grace-filled thoughts and words. There is so much negativity around us these days...it is like a breath of fresh air to hear someone saying something truly uplifting. Thank you for this reminder to be that agent of change in the conversation...and give a word of hope, love and encouragement whenever possible!
My word for 2017 is REST...learning to Rest in Christ...draw nearer to Him and allow myself to settle down and listen to what He has to say to me in the quiet places...It will be a challenge for me who is always doing something...

Beautful post my dear sister in the Lord....
....how blessed we are and how rich we are in Him having the freedom to read and share His word.
I so agree with your word, uplifting as we are commanded to encourage one another.

The first part of a command in Hebrews 11:25 is well enough but the rest of that command in v. 26 is not often mentioned "And exhorting one another, and so much more as Ye see the day approaching."

If I was to stare a word it would be thankful ... "In everything give thanks, for this the will of God in Christ Jesus, concerning you".. and on today's card and post "Give thanks unto the Lord, for His mercy endureth forever."
Lord bless you in 2017, till He comes.

Hello Debbie and a Happy Healthy New Year to you! I really like your word for the year. My word is "courage" For many different reasons, I need courage, to speak the truth, to be myself, to uphold my faith against the nay sayers, etc. I thought about this for a long time. I pray to God to grace me with Courage as I go through the year which I am sure will have its ups and downs, highs and lows, good and bad..... Blessings for the coming year, my dear friend!

Dear Debbie, what a wonderful "word" for this year, and you truly are uplifting in so many ways. You are totally right about how easy it is to be pulled down by the Negative Nellies, but may we each stop a moment and speak into that conversation something that would be uplifting rather than negative. I know God through the Holy Spirit is always there to help us. What a precious word this year. I've not thought about one yet, but perhaps I may! Thanks for another beautiful post, dear friend! Hugs and love...and keep warm!

Happy New Year to you as well Debbie! I too jumped on the bandwagon with a word this year, mine is Kindness. After this election year and the things that have been said I really believe this world needs more kindness....and Uplifting. I agree 1000 percent. Let us all be kind and uplifting this year and for all our years on Earth.

This is the first year I've ever done a word, too, but it came to me one morning before I even opened my eyes, so I obeyed and announced my word, as well.

I truly love your word. Of all of them that I've read about so far, this is my favorite. This is SO important; to be uplifting. And yet, many of us aren't. In fact, I found myself being quite negative today because I was at my wit's end. I had to stop and ask the Lord to please refill me with joy. Sometimes it's so hard...I applaud you for choosing this word. :) You will bless many people with it!

Hello, dear Debbie! Oh, how I love your word! What a truly inspiring and encouraging...and yes, uplifting...post this was to read. I must say, I've been reading your blog for a couple of years now and each and every time I click out of it, I am uplifted, and challenged in my walk with the Lord. You are such an encourager and this world needs more people like that!!

This was the first year I chose a word, and my word is cultivate. I desire, this year, to cultivate and grow in my faith, joy and happiness, gentleness and love, simplicity, purpose, wisdom and knowledge, creativity and skills that I want to better, adventure and so on.

Thank you for sharing this most beautiful post with us. Your photos were lovely as well!

Joy and peace,
Libby

Debbie, this word is just who you are. You are the living embodiment of this word, if I were to think of someone to describe! You have been so uplifting to me in every conversation we have had, and I always am so blessed by your insight into difficult situations, and gentle grace, joy and serenity that you share in every phase of life that you pass through. I know that the Lord will use you mightily and greatly this year to uplift and encourage those who are discouraged. It is so true that negativity abounds, and we can stop it by choosing to speak words of love, instead of agreeing, or saying nothing. Praying the Lord blesses and anoints you mightily in this year of purposefully being uplifting, even though that is who you have always been. I believe the Lord has a great purpose in this for you. Hugs to you today dear friend!

What a wonderful word for the year, and one so fitting I believe because you are surely one of the most uplifting people the Lord has blessed me to "know", even if only through blogging I feel that I know you and Stephanie♥
I am so inspired by your post- I apologize that my comment is late- I have had your post up in my browser meaning to leave this comment for sometime and am finally getting the chance to sit down at the computer again :)
I know the Lord will use you as an encouragement and inspiration to others just as he already has so much. I am so inspired by your words here, as well as the fact that you were inspiring by the amazing words in the verse about letting your speech be "seasoned with salt".

I pray your 2017 so far has been joyous and wonderful and that the whole year to come if filled with blessings.

Love and hugs!
