Gracious Lips

"Hear: for I will speak of excellent things:
and the opening of my lips
shall be right things."
(Proverbs 8:6)

Only God's Word is excellent and right.
Therefore; we need to make sure we are full of it
and speaking it in grace and beauty to others.
~
Only through daily immerson in the scriptures
and through daily prayer and meditation
will we be able to speak
"pleasant words that are as an honeycomb,
sweet to the soul,
and health to the bones."
(Proverbs 16:24)

Honey is good - and good for us.
Did you know that honey is used in the Bible
as the supreme symbol of the Word of God?
So, God's Word is both good, and good for us!
So are pleasant words.
~
But what are pleasant words?
When they are words of encouragement,
counsel, edification, sympathy,
(to name a few)
they are sweet.
If we are to be satisfied and spiritualy healthy,
then we must drink deep of God's honey.
"Right things" flow from a heart
that is full of God's Word.
~
How beautiful and pleasing to God,
when the words we speak
are right, pleasant and fitly spoken.

"A word fitly spoken is like
apples of gold in settings of silver"
(Proverbs 25:11)

"Fitly spoken" - we should choose our words well.
Are they in good taste, in control and with grace?
Because rotten apples are a disgrace
to our Holy and Righteous God.
~
Words are critical;
they can heal or wound;
they can edify or destroy.
Unloving words are like darts that pierce the heart.
How easy it is to blurt out words
that we may later regret.
~
James chapter 3 is excellent in teaching us how to control the tongue.
James is saying, "how can we bless God
and curse men?
In verse 10 James tells us
"My brethren, these things ought not so to be."
In verse 11 James asks?
"Doth a fountain send forth at the same place
sweet water and bitter?"
Learning to control our tongue
seems almost imposible-but not according to the Word of God.
Take heart ladies,
All things are possible with Christ, through His Word, and by His Spirit.
Wouldn't it be glorious if we were so saturated
with the Word of God,
that when we spoke it would be the scriptures
that we were quoting, naturally?
~
Philippians 4:8 tells us to "think on these things"
"Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,
think on these things."
~
If we were to purpose in our hearts
to do as this verse tells us to do,
how could we not speak in love one to another?
Just with that verse alone,
our hearts and minds would be full of sweet honey
that would flow graciously out of our lips.
~
I would encourage you to look up each of those words
in the dictionary and see their definition.
Here's a little taste to get you started.

Lovely:  Delicately beautiful ~ beautiful in moral or spiritual character ~
gracious ~ highly pleasing ~ fine ~
Such qualities in loveliness,
who would't desire this!
~
Our precious Heavenly Father,
by Your grace impower us to open our lips
so as to speak right things that would
heal, edify, encourage and bless
the lives of others,
bringing honor and glory to You.
Draw us to Your Word daily
that we might drink deeply
filling our hearts and minds
with what is good, right and pleasing unto You.
Amen.

Be lovely!
~Debbie~

Those are beautiful words here today, Debbie. I can tell that you are one that speaks love and uplifts those around you. I have had a few of those moments in my life where I wish I could take back some of the words I had spoken.

Happy Wednesday to you- xo Diana

This is a subject that is close to my heart, Debbie. Over the last few years, I've learned just how important our words are...they can build up or tear down.

I'm trying to learn to be careful with my words and some days I still fail but I'm definitely more aware of what I say. If I remember that my words reflect my heart and mind, it helps me to choose my thoughts more carefully before I speak.

Thank you for the gentle reminder to sweeten our words.

Hi Debbie...thank you for this reminder. I sometimes stuggle in this area but I am learning to do better. I find that patience goes hand in hand with this. The more patient we are, the more time we take to think before speaking. I am so thankful for God's abundant grace!

This is beautiful, Debbie and such an important reminder of the power of our words. We all know the sting of hurtful words and how they can wound us so deeply. Such wise counsel and expressed so beautifully. A lovely reminder to take care with our words. Wishing you many sweet blessings this week, Debbie, as you are a blessing to us. Hugs xo Karen

It is so important to think before we speak. It is certainly easy to say things we regret in the heat of the moment and words can't be unsaid. I always try to think about what I want to say and then say it. Thanks for sharing this beautiful message today...:) Have a blessed Wednesday evening....Vicky

Hello my lovely Mother :) Did you know I thought today was Tuesday and didn't even think about checking your blog - duh! Where is my brain?? I don't know, but it's not where it should be.

Your post was full of wisdom from God's Word that I could just soak up. Between you and Dr. Billy Martin my heart is being overloaded by the Word of God which is certainly a good thing.

Your photos are stunning! I love the first one - clever use of the words :)

I love you <3

Good morning, Debbie,
Such wise words of wisdom and so important to remember every single day of our lives. One thoughtless, cruel comment can wound a person for life and one loving compliment can truly make a difference. I wish your words could be put up on a billboard for the world to see each morning as they drive to work and maybe we'd have a happier place.
Your photos are gorgeous! I am so enjoying my visits here! Thank you.

It's Thursday in Indonesia then I know it's Wednesday already in States then in mind was " Let's check Mrs Debbie' blog" :D

Proverbs is like my teacher who teach me how to speak and say the words. I'm afraid that sometimes I hurt people with the words without knowing it hurt them, sometimes being silence is my shield to not allow satan attack me.
But Amen to your prayer Mrs Debbie. We always need God to lead our life.
Blessing,
Delvalina

Hi Debbie! "Apples of gold in settings of silver" What a beautiful image that is. All sparkle and warmth, that's what positive speech is!

I join you in your last prayer too. I pray that I will always fill hearts and minds with support, and with what is pleasing to the Lord.
Blessings,

Words are such a great and powerful weapon. Sometimes they live deep in our souls much longer than any physical wound. May we always remember to chose beautiful words. Thanks for such a wonderful post.

Oh, how powerful words can be! How much we need the Lord as we walk this path of life with Him. May He always help us to keep our tongues from sinning. SO easy to slip and fall in this area, isn't it? Hugs to you! Camille
